“The unit where I have seen more impact than any other place has been the Photoelectron Spectroscopy unit, 15. There are simply not enough resources that I have found to break this concept down and make it accessible for my students. This year, to accompany what I have traditionally done, I added FlinnPREP. The students scored higher on their assessment and demonstrated a more complete understanding. As I continue to use FlinnPREP as a supplement to other AP* Level topics, I expect to see similar things.”
-Letta Meyer, Milipitas High School

Flinn Scientific’s Online Laboratory Safety Course for Undergraduates combines six major safety topics into one 60-minute review. The course is aligned with the American Chemical Society’s Guidelines and Evaluation Procedures for Bachelor’s Degree Programs (May 2015) and is created in a way that it can be easily incorporated throughout your undergraduate science curriculum. Flinn’s online course uses interactive learning to present the key tenets of safety in the undergraduate science laboratory that include:
This course emphasizes the importance of these skills to form a positive safety culture and stresses the need for ongoing laboratory safety training as a primary focus of undergraduate science education. Students will benefit from an innovative approach to laboratory safety training that is compatible on any digital device. Faculty and lab managers benefit by having a digital and print record of each student that has completed the course.
Student success is achieved through innovative techniques that foster learning! FlinnPREP™ courses use a variety of interactive learning strategies to keep students engaged and deliver content in unique ways to reinforce learning objectives.
Quick Quizzes at variable check points challenge students’ comprehension and critical thinking skills to ensure that students have a clear understanding of the material as they progress through the course. End-of-unit assessments provide significant data points of understanding for both students and teachers.
Easy-to-follow text, video, animation, and detailed graphs throughout each unit teach concepts while also providing reteach opportunities for students needing additional support. Students benefit from a variety of teaching methods which offer a personalized learning experience.
FlinnPREP™ is a browser-based web application that can be accessed 24/7 from any computer or mobile device with an internet connection. Included is a user friendly format developed for on-the-go students and for teachers that need quick access to student progress and classroom discussions. Progress monitoring tools and reports keep everyone informed on progress and concept mastery.
Teachers create a FlinnPREP™ teacher account for free. Once this account is activated, a teacher can preview all course content at no charge. Teachers can also create a FlinnPREP™ classroom, invite students to join that classroom, and track progress throughout the course.
With FlinnPREP™, teachers will see the strengths and weaknesses of their students from a detailed perspective. The diagnostic reports provide a detailed analysis of the course performance at the unit level for individual students and for each teacher classroom. FlinnPREP™ also provides teachers with a detailed view of all student assessment results to determine where each individual student is struggling while also providing reteach opportunities via video, animation, and content.
FlinnPREP™ courses contain multiple units of content and each unit is broken down into subtopics. Teachers have access to classroom and student reports that provide up-to-the minute results for each subtopic based on student assessment results. Strength level indicators provide teachers a clear picture of overall classroom performance.
Free school and district level accounts will be available soon. District and school level administrators will have the ability to view average student assessment scores for all classrooms in a school or across an entire district. Included will also be the ability to view detailed practice exam results for all students in a school or district and compare multiple classroom results.
Replace the traditional summer review packet with an engaging review of foundational chemistry or biology topics. Students can review key topics, refresh their knowledge, and assess their mastery during the summer prior to their AP* level course. FlinnPREP™ courses are broken down into multiple units and provide assessments to test student knowledge and gauge their strength. All this can be done at the student’s pace on their own time.
FlinnPREP™ provides supplemental AP* level content optimized for a blended-learning approach and aligned with AP* curriculum standards. With FlinnPREP™, students benefit from year-round access to in-depth content that facilitates personalized learning. The results of each unit assessment will help teachers provide informed instruction and give students feedback to stay on target with AP* coursework.
The “new” AP* Chemistry and AP* Biology exams assess conceptual and higher order cognitive skills rather than algorithmic and lower order cognitive skills. These redesigned exams have left large collections of sample exam questions outdated and less effective as preparatory tools.
Flinn Scientific has written a set of complete practice exams aligned with the style of the newly redesigned AP*exams.
Each student with an active FlinnPREP™ course will have digital access to these full-length practice exams, at no extra charge.
Integrated Checks for Understanding throughout all foundational and AP* level unit content. These formative assessments include drag and drop, matching, and sequencing quizzes. Students are presented with immediate feedback and direction for incorrect answers.
Topic Specific Games included in each course after certain units. These games incorporate several of the same topics covered in the unit checks to increase understanding and provide students another fun way to practice.
Links to Vetted Open Education Resources throughout each unit provide additional opportunities for students to interact with informative simulations, dive into detailed infographics, or see examples of scientific principles related to real-world applications.
Enhanced End-of-Unit Summative Assessments provide students the opportunity to gauge their mastery of content by completing scored assessments at the end of each unit. Video reteach opportunities are available at point of use on assessment results pages, and students are able to retake assessments for additional practices. Each assessment includes 20 questions pulled from a pool of over 80. No two assessments are the same.
